Montecito Success Story:
Jeromie G.
My name is Jeromie G. and I would like to share my journey in this season of my life. Ihave always lived an active lifestyle throughout my adulthood and enjoyed playing sports, riding dirt bikes, and exploring the great outdoors. After my first divorce in my 30’s, I started drinking heavily and living like I was indestructible. This lifestyle ended up costing me my job of 15 years and led me to an even darker area of life. During this time, I slowly became sedentary and began to gain weight. I remarried and was blessed with a beautiful little girl, but I continued my unhealthy lifestyle. Eventually, I became so overweight that the only mobility I performed during the day was getting out of bed to go to the bathroom. I continued to deteriorate and ended up getting significant bed sores and stomach ulcers from my lack of nutrition and abuse of pills and alcohol. My family was no longer able to care for me in this condition and admitted me to the hospital.
I was transferred to Montecito in April 2020 to start my rehab as I was now over 500 pounds and unable to care for myself in any way. I remember it taking several therapists and CNAs just to roll me in bed as I was so weak and heavy. The staff here are exceptional and were able to provide 24 hour care, assist me with weight loss through a customized meal plan, and improve my strength and function with both physical and occupational therapies. Although it seemed impossible at first, I was encouraged daily by everybody at Montecito and was able to lose over 100 pounds in 7 months! I am now able to get out of bed on my own, dress myself, and can stand up and walk wherever I want independently. All of this was made possible through the quality of care and passion this team has for helping people. Karen (COTA), Ann (PTA), Victor (PTA), and Taylor (COTA) were my group of therapists that got me where I am today functionally. Enrique, Avery, Melissa, Monica, Summer, Stephanie, Gladyss, and Tereek were just some of the amazing CNAs that provided outstanding care and service. Charisma was my case manager that helped me every step of the way and provided me with all the appropriate equipment I needed to safely discharge home. I am so thankful and blessed to have met this wonderful team that helped me get my life back on track. I am now back home with my family and trying to live my best life. I love you all and may God continue to bless you and allow you to help anybody that comes through your door.
